For insurance purposes, and each household can receive a Prayer for Judgement (PJC) once every three years. For DMV purposes, each individual can receive two PJCs every five years.
Example 1: John and Mary are a married couple and on the same insurance policy. Mary gets a speeding ticket for going 65 mph in a 45 mph zone. Mary receives a Prayer for Judgment from the District Court Judge. She gets 0 license points and 0 insurance points. Then John runs a stop sign 2 years later. He also gets the judge to grant him a Prayer for Judgment. This will not help their insurance situation because only one PJC is honored per household every 3 years.
Example 2: Charles and Jane are a living together, but are on separate insurance policies. Charles runs a stop sign and convinces the judge to grant him a PJC. He gets 0 license points and 0 insurance points. Jane then gets a Failure to Yield ticket just 3 days later. Jane had already received a speeding ticket 2 years ago and had it reduced from a 75 in a 50 mph zone to a 59 in a 50 mph zone. If Jane uses a PJC, she still will get no license points and no insurance points since she is on a separate insurance policy.
Example 3: Larry already has 11 driver's license points on his license. At 12 points, the Division of Motor Vehicles will suspend his license. Larry has also already used a PJC last year on a speeding ticket. Just yesterday, Larry was caught running a stop sign. In order to save his license, Larry's attorney gets him a PJC on the stop sign ticket. Yes, Larry's insurance will go up because he already used a PJC last year. However, Larry's license will be saved because he's allowed 2 PJC's every 5 years for DMV purposes.
